There are many perks of working in a shared environment, and some of these we have already covered in our post titled ’Core Values of Coworking’. Employees who work with others in a coworking space can form a tight-knit community over time through shared experiences, and learn many things outside their field of expertise. The openness of coworking spaces also encourages a collaborative culture, and is not always present in tradition offices.

Being productive is one of the biggest challenges that some freelancers face in a shared workspace. We have already provided some tips on SharedSpace that detail how to create a positive working environment. This time let’s focus on some additional tips that freelancers can follow to boost their productivity.

Be organized and set targets

One issue that may lead to low productivity is not having clear targets for the day. There can be a lot of distractions in coworking spaces, so it’s imperative to set clear guidelines for you to follow every day. For example, set time-based tasks to complete before lunchtime. That way you have something to accomplish before you approach the midpoint of your working day.

Take advantage of new opportunities

One of the advantages of working in a shared environment is the pool of talent present in the room with you. Every now and then, you’ll hear ideas from group meetings that you’ve never heard before or see announcements of workshops that might interest you.

In an article by BFS Capital, they suggest that being in an enjoyable work environment is one way to stay motivated and therefore increase productivity. Seeing and learning something new every day, as well as interacting with people in different workshops may give you the motivation you need to break new ground and add certain skills to your repertoire. Taking advantage of new opportunities is one of the best perks of working in a coworking space, so use this not only to maintain productivity but also to become better at what you do. Don’t forget to share your skillset with the community so they can understand what you specialize in as networking is another great way to gain new projects which in turn could lead to long lasting relationships. By staying busy, this proactive engagement with others can be the difference between wasting a few hours in the morning or gaining new work to sink your teeth into.

Cancel out noise with a good pair of headphones

Coworking spaces can result in a lot of background noise, which can be a little distracting to those who need to concentrate.

One of the best ways to counter this problem is to invest in a good pair of headphones. Listening to music or a podcast can help you focus on their work more effectively, and therefore boost productivity. Headphones are extremely useful even for those who cannot work while listening to music. There are high-quality headphones out there with noise-canceling features that can completely block out chatter and other noises. Check out the video below to see some of the best this year:

Create a good “office space”

Another way to maintain productivity is to avoid having anything chaotic or messy within sight. Cluttered tables, washroom hallways, and even trash bins can contribute to an unproductive work environment. Creating an attractive work environment can have a huge impact on your productivity. Minute Hack reported that an IAC survey revealed that 93.8% believed that art and plants made their workplace more welcoming.

A coworking space is a good environment to develop your skillset and career. Don’t let distractions hinder productivity and instead, follow these suggestions to make your work life easier.
